Job DescriptionThis position involves nursery work for ornamental pot plants, with responsibilities including preparing soil and growth media, cultivating and participating in horticultural activities on acreage, in a nursery, or in environmentally controlled structures such as a greenhouse or shed.
- Preparing soil and growth media
- Cultivating and other horticultural activities under close supervision on acreage, in a nursery or in a greenhouse or shed
- Hauling and spreading topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss and other materials to condition land
- Digging, raking, screen soil, and filling cold frames and hot beds to prepare them for planting
- Filling growing tanks with water, planting, spraying, weed control, and watering plants, shrubs and trees
- Sowing grass seed, planting plugs of sod, cutting, rolling and stacking sod
- Trapping and poisoning pests such as moles, gophers, mice, etc.
- Planting shrubs in containers; tying, bunching, wrapping and packing flowers, plants, shrubs and trees to fill orders
- Moving containerized shrubs and trees using a wheelbarrow; digging up shrubs and trees and wrapping their roots in burlap
- Dip rose cuttings into vat disinfectant prior to storage; folding and stapling corrugated forms to make boxes used for packing horticultural products
- Additional duties as designated: grass-farm labor, greenhouse laborer, nursery laborer, rose farm laborer, etc.
- Lifting requirement: 70 lbs
- Exposure to extreme temperatures
- Extensive pushing or pulling
- Extensive sitting or walking
- Frequent stooping or bending over
- Repetitive movements
- 3 months of nursery experience required
- Full‑time work availability and ability to work at least 8 hours per day
Frequency of pay:
Twice per month.
Hourly wage: $19.82.
For H‑2A workers, the hourly wage will be no less than $19.82.
WA:
Workers will receive 1.5× their normal rate of pay for every hour worked after 40 hours in any given workweek (RCW 49.46.130).
Workers may be eligible for bonuses based on performance or other company policy.
Paid holidays:
Independence Day (July 3, 2026) and Labor Day (September 7, 2026).
- Monday: 7 hours
- Tuesday: 7 hours
- Wednesday: 7 hours
- Thursday: 7 hours
- Friday: 7 hours
- Saturday: 5 hours
- Sunday: 0 hours (6:00 am – 1:30 pm)
40 hours per week. Full‑time availability required.
Employment Dates- From:
February 1, 2025 to October 30, 2025 - Period of employment:
February 2, 2026 to October 30, 2026
Employers will accept referrals until 06/17/2025.
Employer guarantees employment for the hourly equivalent of 3/4 or 75% of the workdays of the work contract beginning with the first day of work.
Must anticipate being available to work on the start date and through the period of the contract.
