Amazon Data Firehose is a fully managed service for capturing, transforming, and delivering streaming data to destinations like Amazon S3, S3 Tables, Redshift, Splunk, and Open Search Service. It automatically scales to handle incoming data, requires no application to be written, and can perform transformations before delivery, such as format conversion or dynamic partitioning.

Firehose works with billions of events and petabytes of data each day in support of many thousands of customers running mission‑critical real‑time applications.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to join the Amazon Data Firehose leadership team. This highly‑motivated and passionate Software Development Manager will build and lead a team to build our next generation high performance purpose‑built streaming data delivery service to solve real‑time end‑to‑end delivery of data between hundreds of sinks and sources. We are looking for an engineering manager who is enthusiastic about data streaming, and using open source technologies to solve real customers’ business needs, at AWS scale.

You will lead the software development of large‑scale distributed purpose built systems at AWS scale; in Java, C/C++ and other languages using open source technologies and Amazon proprietary technologies.

• Experience in engineering team management
• 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
