Healthcare Assistant Developmental – Perran & Carbis Ward

Band: 2 – 3,
Contract: Permanent

Location: Longreach House, Barncoose Town, Redruth

Salary: £25,272 – £27,476 per annum (pro‑rata if part‑time).

Hours:

Full time or Part time (37.5 hours per week). Shift patterns will include day, night and twilight. Flexible working arrangements such as job share, part‑time or other flexible patterns are available.

Job Overview

This role supports two acute psychiatric wards (Carbis and Perran) at Longreach House, providing assessment and treatment for adults experiencing mental health crises. The position offers clear development from Care Support Assistant to Healthcare Assistant, with supervision, training and learning opportunities.

Main Duties
  • Supporting patients with personal care and daily activities
  • Promoting dignity, independence and well‑being
  • Supporting therapeutic and recovery‑focused ward activities
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients’ mental and physical health
  • Working closely with nurses, doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Maintaining a safe, caring and supportive ward environment
Person Specification Education, Qualifications and Relevant Experience
  • Willingness and competency to complete the Care Certificate within the set timeframe
  • Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience in a care environment
  • Experience working with people experiencing mental health problems
Skills and Aptitude
  • Willingness to assist and support patients, carers and staff as needed
  • Ability to cope with a varied workload
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Awareness of mental health conditions and their impact on individuals
