Job Train, a nonprofit educational and training institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Each of Job Train’s programs combines vocational training, academics, and essential skills development, preparing students to turn their lives around from unemployment and poverty to success and self‑sufficiency. Job Train has a strong relationship with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department, County Probation and currently provides employment training, programs, and services for the currently incarcerated, training/work furlough and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Instructor to join our team in the Maple Street Correctional Facility. The primary responsibility of the Construction Instructor will be to develop and deliver training programs, to trainees aspiring to pursue careers in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will be well‑versed in traditional construction techniques. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.

Essential Job Functions
Modify as needed and implement a comprehensive curriculum for construction trainees.Instruct trainees on proper construction techniques, safety measures, and best practices.Design and deliver engaging training sessions in the classroom, ensuring trainees gain practical skills and knowledge.Assess trainees’ understanding and progress by conducting regular evaluations and providing constructive feedback and coaching.Collaborate with the Job Train and Maple Street instructional teams and industry experts to research and incorporate the latest advancements in construction and training techniques.Modify as needed and maintain training materials, including manuals and presentations.Establish and clarify acceptable standards for student behavior (in accordance with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department) and demonstrate effective classroom management skills.Assist Job Train and the Sheriff’s Department in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct; and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and attendance.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by Job Train and our partners.Serve as a role model to students in the areas of appearance, actions, behaviors and interpersonal interactions with peers.Cooperate with other members of staff in planning curriculum and instructional methods, goals and objectives.Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student trainees and all staff.Maintain a professional relationship with inmates and colleagues.Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Preference will be given to candidates who can display industry knowledge and related work experience.Familiarity and relatable work experience in the Construction Trades or educator in related vocational instruction.Familiarity with construction techniques, tools and ability to teach those skills.Strong math skills related to the construction industry.Comfortable using and instructing through technology.Key Knowledge,
