Job Description
American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery night shift position in California requiring a current CA RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit
- Patient population includes mothers and newborns, with care typically for 32 weeks gestation and above
- Unit uses Cerner Power Chart Maternity and Cerner Fetal Links for fetal monitoring
- Patient ratios follow ACOG and California requirements, generally 1:3 or 1:4 couplets
- Shift is 12 hours, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, with every other weekend required
- Floating to postpartum unit required in rotation with permanent staff
- Charge nurse manages triage; OB techs function as aides when not in surgical cases
- Level II NICU onsite staffed by specialized nurses who attend deliveries
- No formal on-call required but may be placed on call for low census, with a 20-minute response time if called back
- Ceil blue scrubs provided by the hospital
- Work with new LDRP rooms and older postpartum rooms
- Lactation nurse support available during the day and completes lactation care plans for reference
- Staff utilize translation services via Vocera phones for a high volume of Mandarin-speaking patients
- Everyone, including travelers, assists with triage and non-stress tests (NST)
- Not a locked unit; uses Hugs and Kisses infant security system
- Holiday shifts required on a rotating basis, approximately one major holiday out of every three
- Team includes anesthesia in-house (or readily available) and 24/7 RT and pharmacy support
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Returning candidates must not have worked for Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year as an employee
- Active and current CA RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years recent L&D experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (all must be active; pending certifications not accepted)
- Experience documenting in Cerner EMR is preferred
- References required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
- Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
