Job Duties
- Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
- Admit patient to perioperative setting & conduct pre‑operative patient interview, assessment, and education, counseling, and testing
- Explain informed consent for surgery and answer any questions the patient/family members may have
- Communicate team members regarding changes in the OR schedule (time, procedure, add‑ons, move‑ups, and late arrivals), patient/family special needs/concerns, and staffing changes/problems
- Administer medications and perform safe, individualized care for the patients
- Effectively communicate with the team, physicians, and patient family members regarding the patient's status
- Develop a plan of care to meet patient's needs related to surgical condition
- Confirm that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
- Maintain order and cleanliness of postoperative area
- Obtain lab tests and results as indicated; report abnormal values per policy
- Explain postoperative plan of care to the patient/patient's family including what to expect during the recovery phase and how the family plays a role
- Perform postoperative telephone contact to assess patient's post‑op status and provide further education and advise as needed
- Associates level degree from an accredited school of nursing required;
Bachelor's level preferred - Active RN California License
- Current AHA BLS/ACLS Certification
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in the recovery room at an acute care facility preferred (in the last five years);
Orthopedic experience preferred. - Experience in the post anesthesia recovery required
- ASC experience preferred
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and with their office personnel, coworkers, and other healthcare facilities in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
- Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems
- Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
- Electronic Medical Record experience; EPIC experience preferred
