Essential Functions
The Dean, Students plans, organizes, and integrates student support services for the college and its educational centers, working with other deans and directors to develop programs that create clear pathways to employment and further education. The role includes proactive academic and career advising, tracking student needs, maintaining accreditation standards, approving professional development, conducting faculty evaluation and tenure processes, and ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.

Unlike other deans, the Dean, Students leads services that support all students, including counseling, enrollment, registration, financial aid, career or transfer programs, and retention initiatives for disproportionately impacted populations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the operations of the Student Services Division, developing work plans, budgeting, and performance monitoring.Participate in faculty selection, onboarding, and assignment, ensuring accreditation requirements and fostering a collegial environment.Direct and assess employee performance, conduct evaluations, address grievances, and approve disciplinary actions in accordance with policies and agreements.Provide day‑to‑day leadership, supporting a high‑performance, service‑oriented workplace that promotes diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency.Collaborate with committees such as Guided Pathways and Equity Planning to advance state-level educational goals.Lead or participate in governance processes, including accreditation projects and strategic planning.Develop and improve new methodologies, technologies, and business processes for greater efficiency.Design and deliver holistic student support programs, ensuring access to academic, career, and personal advising from pre‑enrollment through transfer or graduation.Oversee transition processes for students entering or leaving the college, including dual enrollment support.Manage grant‑funded programs for marginalized populations, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines and timely reporting.Administrate academic integrity, student behavior, and due process, adjudicating appeals and coordinating grievance responses.Ensure resources such as employees, facilities, technology, and equipment meet student support needs.Collaborate with other deans to develop new programs and advise on institutional strategies.Coordinate state, local, and regional collaborations, develop grant applications, and administer district‑wide grants.Revise policies and procedures to improve clarity and effectiveness.Maintain compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, utilizing databases and portal systems for data management.Represent the college at programs, conferences, and meetings, presenting to various audiences.Other Duties
Provide direct crisis counseling to students as needed.Engage with community and business organizations to enhance the college’s presence.Demonstrate sensitivity toward historically minoritized groups and participate in professional development for cultural competency.Perform related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
- Evidence of responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- A master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration or faculty leadership, including at least two years in a management capacity involving student services operations.
- Valid California driver’s license.
