- Understands the importance of holding ourselves accountable as educators for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices;

- Strategically builds support for and participation in equity-related initiatives across both our internal and external communities.
- Provide the total range of community college academic, transfer and career counseling to focus on current and former foster youth, including orientation and the development of student educational plans (SEP).
- Provide personal counseling to assist students in addressing a variety of personal challenges, including personal relationship issues and problems, development of interpersonal communication skills, psychological and/or behavioral difficulties, decision making skills, chemical dependency problems, gender/sexuality issues and concerns, health problems and concerns.
- Provide referrals to external community agencies for housing assistance, and health, mental health and/or professional counseling.
- Interpret English/math assessments.
- Administer and interpret behavioral skills assessments.
- Instruct counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation.
- Provide Independent Living instruction and facilitate small groups for students on topics of interest as appropriate.
- Provide special assistance for students who are on academic probation.
- Meet with faculty and other academic staff as necessary to support the individual educational programs of students.
- Participate in program development for the Next Up Program, coordinate activities or specialized programs, and evaluate activities or specialized programs.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with partners on campus and in the community.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Work and/or teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed.
- Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
- Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development.
- One of the following:
- (1) Nine semester units of college coursework predominantly related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; or
- (2) Six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; and
- All candidates must have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
- NOTE:
A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match EXACTLY as stated above, you MUST petition for equivalency.
