The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, Counseling at Fresno City College; it will cover a full range of counseling responsibilities in the Health Sciences division including academic, career and personal counseling with individuals and groups in addition to teaching discipline specific courses. Maintain close working relationships with the dean, program director(s), instructional faculty, ROP programs and community health organizations. The successful candidate for the Counselor position will be responsible for:
- Providing comprehensive counseling services for students including academic, career, personal and life transitions counseling on an appointment basis;
- Providing group counseling sessions, orientations, and workshops;
- Assisting students in clarifying their educational goals, selection of courses, and developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs);
- Monitoring student progress through comprehensive electronic data systems;
- Maintaining close working relationships with program and other instructional faculty, feeder high schools, and community resources agencies;
- Working with a diverse population of students to emphasize strategies for educational planning and transfer preparation;
- Collaborating with instructional and counseling faculty, staff from other departments and programs, including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, EOPS/CARE, DSP&S, CalWORKs, Puente, UMOJA, USEAA, Veterans/International, TRiO, Student Support Services, College Relations and Outreach, and other programs;
- Utilizing and keeping abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories that include integrating technology to support student learning and identification of career objectives;
