Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach both lecture and laboratory classes in Biology including majors, developmental, and transfer level courses, human anatomy and human physiology;
  • Maintain instruments used in teaching Biology and teach the principles and applications of Biology instrumentation;
  • Assist in the coordination of laboratory facilities and assure the availability of supplies and equipment;
  • Evaluate and mentor part‑time instructors;
  • Implement appropriate practices to develop writing skills at all levels;
  • Participate in the accreditation process;
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Develop classroom presentations using multimedia tools;
  • Advise students participating in college/district committees;
  • Cooperate with regard to scheduling classes between colleagues in the same pathway;
  • Participate in student recruiting and mentoring activities;
  • Participate in curriculum and program review and/or development or revision, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
  • Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom.

  • Master's in any biological science; or
  • Bachelor's in any biological science and master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at the post‑secondary level;
  • Broad based academic background in biology;
  • Knowledge of current laboratory safety procedures;
  • Experience in maintaining instruments used in teaching biology;

  • Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes;
