Position: Dance Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Fresno City College

Overview

Dance Instructor – Full‑Time, Tenure‑Track (Campus: Fresno City College, Start: 12/24/2025, Closing Date: 02/17/2026 at 11:55 PM)

Responsibilities
  • Teach a full range of dance courses, including modern, ballet, jazz, composition, choreography, and related techniques as assigned.
  • Organize, coordinate, and provide artistic direction for dance performances and concerts.
  • Coordinate and support part‑time dance faculty.
  • Assist the Dean with scheduling and implementation of the Dance Pathway.
  • Provide leadership in Dance Pathway curriculum development and program planning.
  • Support and facilitate student participation in the American College Dance Association Festival.
  • Monitor and oversee the care and appropriate use of dance studios and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with the Dean to manage and oversee multiple budgets in support of the Dance program.
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on‑line or off‑campus, and large‑group instruction classes as needed, may include off‑campus instruction at local high schools for dual enrollment.
  • Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Master’s in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis; or
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies utilized in providing high‑quality instruction and support to students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Experience in choreographic and performance work, including dance concert direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and support student choreographers.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience with fundraising or resource development to support program growth and student scholarships.
  • Knowledge of multiple dance techniques, including modern, ballet, and jazz.
  • Ability to lead and support program recruitment efforts.
  • Knowledge of historical and contemporary dance styles and works.
  • Understanding of the K‑12 Dance credentialing program.
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits

Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The District offers medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, life insurance, and membership in the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have submitted all required documents by the closing date, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications and then determine who will be invited to interview.
