Under the administrative direction of the Director, Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSP&S), the Counselor will provide a complete range of counseling, accommodation and support resource services offered by the Disabled Students Programs & Services office at Madera Community College. Duties of the Counselor will include the following:
- Determining qualifications and appropriate individual support programs for students with disabilities, providing direct personal, vocational, and academic counseling services;
- Meeting with faculty and other academic staff as necessary to support the individual educational programs of students;
- Providing liaison services between students with disabilities, faculty, staff, and appropriate campus and community support systems;
- Facilitating accommodations by making service referrals to students with physical, learning, and psychological disabilities;
- Determining and documenting educational limitations and appropriate accommodations for students in the DSP&S program;
- Assisting students to clarify and identify educational goals, develop student educational plans and contracts, and select appropriate courses to meet goal requirements;
- Conducting student follow up, monitoring student progress and academic standing, and monitoring accommodations and student needs;
- Assisting students with disabilities to transition to and be successful in the college environment;
- Maximizing student success by collaborating with other student services and instructional faculty;
- Developing and maintaining competency regarding knowledge of College programs, services, policies and procedures;
