- Lead the Firms accounting and financial management functions, including financial controls, policies, procedures, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain the general ledger, supporting schedules, bank and trust reconciliations, and month-end/year-end working papers.
- Prepare financial statements and corporate tax filings and coordinate year-end reporting with external accountants and auditors.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, government remittances, filings, and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare annual budgets and forecasts for the Firm and related companies.
- Monitor results against budget, analyze variances, and report meaningful financial insights to the Partners.
- Manage cash flow and liquidity to support operational and Partner requirements.
- Oversee payroll accuracy, timeliness, regulatory compliance, and related policies.
- Support lawyer, staff, Counsel, and Partner compensation, distributions, and benefit-related administration.
- Monitor financial performance and provide analysis and recommendations to the Partnership.
- Oversee client billing, collections, work-in-progress, Partner reporting, and Law Society trust accounting requirements.
- Lead, train, develop, and support accounting and payroll staff to meet operational objectives.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation completed or in progress preferred.
- Experience overseeing finance/accounting operations and full-cycle payroll.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, cash flow management and regulatory compliance (payroll/employment standards legislation, GST/PST and income tax remittances).
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel; experience with legal accounting or practice management systems, including PCLaw, is an asset.
