Grenfell Community High School offers Pre‑K to grade 6 programming to an enrolment of approximately 117 students. Grenfell is located 134 km east of Regina. This is a permanent part‑time position that will commence on January 19, 2026.
Role OverviewThe Library Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the day-to‑day operations of the school library in order to create a positive, welcoming and relevant centre of learning for all members of the school community.
What You Will Do- Independently and accurately perform basic cataloguing functions using standards of professional librarianship:
- Create “copy” catalogue records and edit bibliographic records available through online databases.
- Accurately generate labels and bar codes.
- Maintain, edit, add, and delete patron records, using appropriate utilities.
- Complete regular inventories of resources at schools.
- Employ division cataloguing and library automated system standards that reflect standards recommended by the Ministry and other recognized library organisations.
- Collaborate regularly with team members to ensure a high level of accuracy, detail, and consistency within cataloguing records and for cataloguing practices.
- Order approved resources and send information for new resources to a library technician to create the bibliographic record.
- Provide reference services to teachers and students, including assisting in locating and using library materials for reading, research, units of work and resource‑based learning.
- Maintain inventory of resources, ensuring computer‑based circulation protocols are followed, collect overdue materials and attend to inventory management.
- Acquire and process resources (shelving, filing, laminating, repairing), order library consumables and process materials received.
- Promote an inviting library environment conducive to student achievement by assisting with reading activities, displays and events that engage students and contribute to the school‑wide literacy culture.
- Assist teachers in the supervision of student use of the library.
- Attend and participate in regular division library staff meetings and professional development.
- Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the School Administrator.
- A minimum of one year post‑secondary education in a field such as business administration or office administration or an approved Library Clerk certificate.
- A working knowledge of computers and Microsoft applications of Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Experience in a library setting would be an asset.
- High degree of proficiency in database software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
- Proven written and oral communication skills.
