This position is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Saskatchewan Student Assessment program. This role is integral to ensuring the validity, reliability, fairness, and defensibility of assessments used to inform educational decision-making across the K–12 system. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the technical and analytical components of the program’s design and evaluation.
Reporting to the Senior Psychometrician the successful candidate will:
bring proven expertise in educational measurement and psychometrics, particularly in the context of large-scale assessments.be a collaborative and detail-oriented professional who can translate complex data and measurement models into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.contribute to innovation and evidence-informed practices in assessment design, analysis, and reporting.provide strategic advice to the Senior Psychometrician, Director of Assessment, Executive Director and Office of the Deputy Minister.You will have knowledge of:
psychometric frameworks (e.g., classical test theory (CTT), item response theory (IRT), and computerized adaptive testing (CAT)).core concepts in educational measurement (e.g., test development, reliability, validity, fairness, item bank management, scaling, equating, and linking).statistical concepts and methodologies relevant to applied educational research.standard setting procedures, including bookmarking and other judgment-based methods.current trends and research in large-scale assessment, including fairness and accessibility considerations.ethical, legal, and privacy considerations in the use and reporting of student assessment data.You will have the ability to:
design, conduct, and interpret psychometric analyses using tools such as R, SAS, Winsteps, BILOG, or equivalent.design and conduct applied educational research studies to inform educational and assessment policy, improve test design, and explore emerging issues in student learning in Saskatchewan.analyze and model assessment data using IRT frameworks and support implementation of multistage adaptive test designs.support the cyclical demands of test administration, calibration, and reporting.develop technical documentation and contribute to user-friendly reporting for both technical and non-technical audiences.provide psychometric guidance to item developers, test designers, and policy teams.collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders to ensure the integrity and coherence of assessment programs.organize and manage multiple projects taking into consideration conflicting and changing priorities in order to meet deadlines.plan, coordinate and facilitate a range of presentations, meetings, projects, workshops or conferences, engaging various stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.work independently and as part of a team using collaboration strategies that consider a variety of perspectives to complete work assignments, achieve common goals and contribute to a positive work environment.The knowledge and skills for this position would typically be acquired through a combination of relevant education and test development experience in an operational setting.
