Primary Purpose

The Associate Dean, Regina Campus is a member of the senior leadership team of the College of Medicine and a Senior Administrator of the University. The Associate Dean carries delegated authority from the Dean and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the performance of the Regina Campus. In this capacity, the Associate Dean is responsible for developing, implementing and advancing the academic and operational leadership of the Regina Campus, ensuring its full alignment and integration with the overall strategic leadership of the College of Medicine.

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Medicine and works collaboratively with other Associate Deans, Vice-Deans, Provincial Heads, and members of the senior leadership team of the college to ensure the design and academic quality, integrity, and delivery of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education programming offered through the Regina Campus meets or exceeds the defined program outcomes and expectations set for learners, is fully integrated with the overall directions, expectations, and academic and professional standards set by the College of Medicine, health care partners, professional colleges, and accrediting bodies.

The role supports and champions teaching and learning innovation and excellence and promotes and encourages learners’ success. The Associate Dean provides leadership in creating opportunities for innovative projects and opportunities to support internal and external partnerships of the Regina Campus.

The University and College of Medicine Mission, Vision, Principles, Values and Strategic Plans will inform the position in fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.

Nature of the Work

The Associate Dean fully participates in the college planning processes and acts as the Dean’s delegate in advancing the strategy and planning of the Regina Campus. The position provides leadership to faculty, staff and learners as a member of the college senior leadership team and ensures the Regina Campus is fully integrated with other academic and administrative units of the college and university to enhance the capacity and quality of teaching and learning in the Regina Campus.

The Associate Dean provides leadership for the development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated academic plan for the Regina Campus and is responsible for building strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to expand the impact and visibility of the Regina Campus and to promote teaching and learning.

The Associate Dean collaborates with diverse communities and stakeholders requiring an awareness of and sensitivity to issues around Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.

The Associate Dean functions in a highly demanding environment that requires the foresight to balance a multitude of needs, demands, and strategies; constant vigilance for issues and challenges; and prioritization of limited resources. The role requires working with multiple stakeholders and constituencies both internal and external to the college (learners, faculty, individual physicians, Saskatchewan Health Authority, Saskatchewan Medical Association, provincial government, academic departments, etc.).

The Associate Dean, in consultation with the Dean, is responsible for determining the nature and extent of their own academic and clinical activities ensuring those activities do not conflict or interfere with the performance of the responsibilities of the Associate Dean role. The role of the Associate Dean is conceptualized as a full-time position, however, less than 1 FTE is negotiable (up to a minimum of FTE) to accommodate clinical activities required outside the role.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

An MD and a proven track record in teaching success and progressive experience in an academic health related environment with recent experience in leadership is required.
