Job Overview

Full time PERMANENT Teaching Position (0.35 School Counsellor / 0.65 Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT)) at Immaculate Conception School, Colliers. Duties to commence September 8, 2026.

As School Counsellor, you will be a part of the school-based service delivery team and be responsible for the development of an annual comprehensive school guidance program which outlines the implementation of interventions that promote the holistic development of students.

Reporting to the Principal or designate, you will provide leadership to school staff, service to students, implement assessments, and participate in response planning for possible critical incidents/traumatic events. As part of the school's service delivery term you will further the aims and objectives of NLSchools and support improved educational opportunities through program support.

As a School Counsellor, your work will be guided by the application of the Standards of Practice for School Counsellors which are: comprehensive school guidance program; education system and ethical responsibilities; student development, diversity; comprehensive assessment; counseling and career development; and crisis intervention.

Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of proactive measures in creating a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experiences in individual and group counseling and in utilizing data and resources to support student and school community needs.
  • Extensive understanding of the assessment process and its implications for student learning and adherence to the comprehensive assessment guidelines established by the Department of Education.
  • Understanding of and the ability to implement comprehensive assessments which may include formal assessment of achievement and cognitive ability (Level A, B, and C Assessments).
  • Knowledge of information contained in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) pertinent to students served.
  • Extensive understanding of the diversity of human growth, development, behavior, learning, and the promotion of the holistic development of students, and demonstrated knowledge of child development and knowledge of the diverse learning needs of students.
  • A thorough understanding of the ethical requirements in providing a comprehensive school guidance program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholder groups that support the comprehensive school guidance program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in collaboration with students and parents/guardians in decision making.
  • Success in fostering partnerships, conflict mediation and resolution, facilitation, collaboration and consultation.
  • Strong team-building, time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of the process of career development for students from K-12.
  • Strong understanding of legislation related to child protection, children, and youth.
  • Understanding of the education system and supports the learning and development of students.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning to inform personal practice.
Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) Responsibilities

As an Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT), you will support a diverse range of learners by developing and delivering individualized programming. Your work will focus on meeting the unique needs of students through enrichment, academic intervention, social-emotional development, and the building of accessibility and adaptive skills.

Successful candidates will be able to engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities; demonstrate the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices; provide evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and families; demonstrate a love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity; provide evidence and understanding of the impact of effective assessment practices.
