Position Summary

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) plays a critical institutional role in advancing quality teaching and student learning through the development and delivery of evidence-informed teaching and learning programming, faculty development initiatives, and strategic academic support services. The Director will provide vision and operational leadership to CTL staff, including educational developers, the Manager of Open Educational Programs, and administrative personnel.

The Director supports teaching approaches that align with and promote inclusive, accessible, and quality learning experiences. The Director works to ensure alignment between the teaching and learning needs of the institution, faculties, and academic departments and CTL services that support faculty across a range of areas, including course design, curriculum mapping, instructional development, and the integration of academic technologies. This position plays a critical leadership role through the targeted experimentation with curricular innovation and technology-enhanced teaching with the overarching goal of transforming the way we educate and engage students.

With increased use of technology, new pedagogical approaches, and an increase in online instruction, the Centre will focus on enhancing the quality of teaching, supporting innovations in teaching and learning, and developing pedagogical approaches that would positively impact the retention, graduation, and overall learning experiences of diverse learners. The Director also has a leadership role in proposing new academic technologies to enhance the University’s technology infrastructure supporting the academic mission of the University.

In addition, this position supports and promotes the University of Regina Open Education and Publishing Program within the CTL, working closely with the AVP (Academic) and Program Manager, while advancing the integration of open educational resources into academic programs and courses. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Director oversees daily operations, including staff recruitment, supervision, workload distribution, and performance management, as well as conducting evaluations and implementing improvement plans when needed.

The role also involves collaborating with a broad range of campus stakeholders to advocate for high-quality teaching and innovation, including the integration of teaching and research, evidence-based pedagogies, curriculum development and renewal, educational technology adoption, interdisciplinary approaches, Indigenization and decolonization efforts, and the development of accessible and inclusive learning frameworks.

What You’ll Do

Leading and supporting faculty and academic unit initiatives in curriculum mapping, constructive alignment, course and program design, and pedagogical innovation via CTL consultation and programming

Administering faculty development awards and programs (e.g., CTL Teaching Awards, President’s Teaching and Learning Scholars, UR² Fellows, Graduate Teaching Enhancement Course [GTEC], Instructional Skills Workshop [ISW])

Promoting and participating in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), supporting faculty engaged in critical inquiry into their teaching practices and student learning, and disseminating CTL-led or collaborative research initiatives

Supporting the integration, evaluation, selection, and piloting of academic technologies; providing professional learning opportunities for faculty implementation; and participating in relevant institutional committees in collaboration with Information Services and the AVP Academic’s office

Supporting academic technology adoption (e.g., formative assessment tools, responsible use of generative AI, collaborative platforms, and classroom engagement tools) to enhance pedagogical approaches and increase student engagement

Supporting academic integrity strategies, particularly in response to emerging technologies such as generative AI
