Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Indigenous Health Studies;
contribute to curriculum development, program planning, and student learning;
maintain an active program of research, scholarship, creative activity, or equivalent professional activity;
advise and mentor students;
participate in departmental, University, and related academic service;
contribute to public and community-engaged service, particularly in support of Indigenous communities;
work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, students, colleagues, and community partners.
Faculty duties may vary by academic unit and are assigned in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement and academic processes.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have:
PhD in related discipline Indigenous Health Studies; such as psychology, nursing, health policy, medicine, medical social work and be able to provide a clear demonstration of teaching excellence and scholarly activity and experience working in Indigenous Health programs. Applicants who are ABD may be considered provided they have a confirmed or anticipated completion date within two years of the appointment start date.
This requirement reflects the qualifications established for this position;
Strong understanding of colonization and its direct link to contemporary Indigenous health issues such as population health concepts; wholistic health concepts; and community-based health and wellness;
Evidence of effective teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence;
A record of, or clear potential for, research, scholarship, creative activity, or equivalent professional activity;
Experience working with Indigenous communities, students, organizations, or knowledge systems;
Demonstrated commitment to student success;
OCAPtraining or demonstrated knowledge ofOCAPprinciples;
TCPS 2 certification/training; and
Demonstrated experience and understanding of Indigenous Research Methodologies.
Ability to contribute to the mission and academic priorities of First Nations University of Canada.
For appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates should normally have a completed PhD or other terminal degree and a stronger record of teaching, research and scholarly activity, service, and academic leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
experience teaching Indigenous students or working in Indigenous post-secondary education;
experience with Indigenous knowledges, pedagogies, research methodologies, or community engaged scholarship;
experience developing curriculum relevant to Indigenous contexts;
demonstrated service to Indigenous communities; and
experience teaching in face-to-face, remote, hybrid, or distributed learning environments.
