Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training
The Opportunity
As an Early Professional in Geotechnical Engineering, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects across Vancouver Island and British Columbia. You’ll support investigations, field programs, and geotechnical assessments that shape the infrastructure, communities, and environments around us. Working alongside experienced geotechnical engineers, you will build hands‑on expertise in both field and analytical work—gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of geotechnical design.
This is a role where curiosity, collaboration, and technical growth come together. Vancouver Island offers a diverse geotechnical landscape, giving you the chance to expand your skills in terrain assessment, construction support, soft soils, coastal systems, and complex ground conditions.
Your Impact- Deliver field and office‑based geotechnical services that support a wide range of infrastructure and development projects.
- Carry out field testing programs including in‑situ density testing, materials testing, and construction monitoring.
- Complete construction site reconnaissance, inspections, and observations to verify geotechnical conditions.
- Lead or assist with subsurface investigation programs, including layout, drill rig supervision, borehole/test pit logging, soil and groundwater sampling, and site sketching.
- Apply geotechnical software and specialized equipment to prepare analyses, visualizations, and technical deliverables.
- Summarize findings from investigations and laboratory testing to support internal design discussions and client‑facing reports.
- A degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering—or equivalent education/experience.
- Registration or eligibility for Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) status with EGBC.
- A passion for fieldwork, and the ability to work independently in dynamic project environments.
- Experience or exposure to active construction sites and geotechnical field programs (an asset).
- Strong foundational skills in geotechnical logging, soil characterization, and site documentation.
- Proficiency with MS Office and a valid driver’s license with a clean abstract.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 – $88,400
MB & ON: $60,900 – $83,800
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $60,300 – $80,000
