The Opportunity
The Pension Administration branch is seeking a highly motivated and proficient individual as a Pension Specialist to provide clear, concise and timely information to our clients and ensure accuracy of pension benefit entitlements.
Reporting to the Supervisor or Pension Administration, the Pension Specialist is responsible for:
Auditing the work performed by Pension Information Officers and other Pension Specialists;
Independently investigate and resolve escalated pension related issues taking corrective action, including performing more complex calculations;
Ensuring the pension administration system is functioning accurately, investigate issues, recommend enhancements and perform user acceptance testing;
Communicating pension plan provisions, relevant pension and tax legislation, policies and procedures to plan members, lawyers, spouses, beneficiaries, employers and other stakeholders by phone, mail and in-person client consultations;
The onboarding and training of Pension Information Officers to improve their working knowledge on items such as legislative, procedure or policy changes as well as pension system enhancements;
Maintaining current procedure manuals and training documents;
Leading annual project work such as Member Statements, tax reconciliations and preparing quarterly and annual report statistical measures; and
Supporting Plannera as a pension plan subject matter expert on plan initiatives with the ability to identify, clarify and analyze relevant issues, concerns or problems in order to provide options and recommendations.

Requirements

Creative and decisive to make recommendations for system enhancements or procedure changes; and

Typically, the knowledge and experience for this position would be acquired through a combination of: experience in a pension plan administrative role of progressive responsibility; and/or the completion of the Pension Plan Administration Certificate course (PPAC) and/or the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist program (CEBS) and/or a University degree in Business or Commerce.
