This position works as part of an interdisciplinary primary health care team. Under the direction of the Primary Health Care Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health services to the community of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs.
This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals as required.
- One year experience in community needs assessment/development/health promotion
- Three (3) years experience working as a Registered Nurse
- Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Experience as an RN in a primary healthcare or home care setting is an asset
- Registered/eligible for registration with CRNS as a Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Basic Life Support Level C Certificate (BLS-C)
- Certification in Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program required
- Demonstrate Leadership and organizational skills
- Demonstrates ability in verbal and non-verbal communication techniques
- Some knowledge and practical application of central line access
- Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
- Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change
- Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills
- Excellent public relations skills
- Demonstrates ability to show initiative and self-direction
- Ability to apply advanced computer skills
- Recognizes the need for holistic care for individuals, families, and groups
- Proficient in peripheral access
- Decision making through the application of knowledge and critical thinking
- Travel within the region and provincially
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
