Position Summary: The Indigenous Family Wellness Worker provides culturally safe, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered support to Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse people, as well as families impacted by family, intimate partner, and gender-based violence in an urban setting. This role is grounded in Indigenous understandings of safety, healing, and prevention, and recognizes the disproportionate impacts of violence on Indigenous women, girls, and 2

SLGBTQIA+ people. The worker supports individuals and families through prevention, early intervention, safety planning, advocacy, and connection to culturally grounded healing supports, while honouring self-determination, choice, and dignity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally safe, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed support to Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse people experiencing or at risk of violence
  • Support safety planning and crisis response, based on client readiness and consent
  • Offer emotional support, validation, and practical assistance to reduce harm and increase safety
  • Centre survivor choice, autonomy, and confidentiality in all interactions

Prevention & Healing-Focused Work:

  • Support family and gender-based violence prevention through education, outreach, and early intervention
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate prevention programming such as workshops, circles, or support groups
  • Promote healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, and Indigenous approaches to healing and accountability

Advocacy & Systems Navigation:

  • Support clients in navigating housing, income assistance, legal systems, child welfare, healthcare, and shelters
  • Advocate for culturally safe, non-discriminatory service delivery
  • Accompany clients to appointments or court processes when appropriate
