** Description of Work
** Multiple positions will be filled from this posting. You only have to apply once to be considered for all positions. Remote and satellite offices are available with the understanding the selected applicant will be responsible for the designated region. Primary locations are Rockingham, Mecklenburg and Moore counties.
The Materials and Test unit is actively recruiting Engineering Technician III’s for f Divisions 7, 8 and 14. The Section Materials Technician is responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting materials on highway construction projects throughout the assigned Division in order to assure that they meet prescribed standards and specifications. This position is also responsible for performing assessments of producer/contractor technicians to ensure that they are performing quality control and acceptance testing properly according to prescribed standards and specifications.

It provides instruction in the Department’s certification programs.

** Salary Grade and Hiring  Range:  NC 11 ($67,498 - $69,185)
** Management prefers applicants with the following:
*** Demonstrated ability to assess testing proficiency to ensure compliance with established testing methods
* Experience evaluating and reviewing inspectors’ reports related to compliance with specifications.
* Experience working in close quarters with restricted movement, climbing bridge substructures, and/or working over water or over and around high volumes of traffic.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with DOT staff, Contractors, and/or Industry Partners.
* Experience using computers and various computer software on a regular basis.
** Additional Expectations:
** Must have the ability to safely navigate hazardous work situations at highway construction projects and material/product stockpiles while following established in-house safety procedures.

Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.

Knowledge, experience and certification in sampling and testing asphalt, aggregate, concrete and soils materials used in highway construction is helpful. Knowledge and experience with HiCAMS database is also helpful.

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
