The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Public Relations/Volunteer Coordinator for Rockingham County, located in Reidsville, NC.

Plans, produces, implements, monitors and evaluates all public relations functions for the Corps to ensure that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities. Plans, coordinates and manages the volunteer program for the Corps; recruits, trains, cultivates relationships and supervises volunteers; provides education and awareness of The Army’s programs and volunteer opportunities to the community.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective media relations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of volunteer recruitment and supervision. Knowledge of the general principles of marketing, branding, and promotional material development. Knowledge of web design and content development as well as effective principles and practices of using the web as a vital communication channel both internal and external to the organization.

Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate and complete manner. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a related field and three years of experience managing volunteers and coordinating public relations efforts in a large organization or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Work is performed in an office, warehouse, and various community venues both indoors and outdoors where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated.

Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
