Overview
Our mission is to provide opportunities for people to develop to their full potential, with a focus on children and young people and those who are vulnerable, have a disability or face disadvantage. We are recruiting for a Disability Leader – Lifeworks Hub SEND to join our CYP – Disability Service team. This person will lead and deliver an Alternative Education Provision for learners, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred care, safety, wellbeing, positive development, and compliance with safeguarding, regulatory, health and safety, and organisational standards.
They will lead a team of LSA’s to ensure timely opportunities and support in planned lessons and learning activities, record outcome evidence across the Hub, and assist the Coordinator in planning a high‑quality learning provision.
- Introduction to safeguarding children and safeguarding adults or willingness to undertake
- Food hygiene training or a willingness to complete this
- Child Care / Adult Work in education level 3 or equivalent qualification (or working towards) or a willingness to work towards this
- Relevant training in positive behaviour management, positive touch and epilepsy
- Experience supporting others with children and young people who have learning disability or SEND
- Experience working in an educational or social care setting
- Experience leading a team independently
- Experience running activities for children, young people and adults
- Experience of positively managing behaviour in various situations
- Living or working experience with children or adults with disabilities and additional needs
- Experience planning, organising and carrying out tasks e.g., music, drama, art and cooking sessions
- Experience leading educational sessions for CYP with EHCP with set learning outcomes, ILP’s
Service Delivery and Leadership
- Take responsibility for the day‑to‑day structure and smooth running of the Learning Hub
- Deliver Hub timetable and lead planned learning sessions following Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Lead a team of Learning Support Assistants and volunteers, supporting them with roles including managing distress behaviours, sensory engagement and intensive interaction and knowing when to seek further support
- Complete daily staff allocations, building risk assessment, and staff brief and de‑brief
- Ensure the service provided is safe, high quality and appropriate for Learners
- Act as the responsible person when the Coordinator is unavailable
- Keep records of attendance, collate data on learning outcomes with evidence from the team, provide reports on progression, and identify extra support or adjustments to learning plans as required
- Adapt learning sessions to meet the needs and emotional wellbeing of Learners where needed
- Ensure resources are set up and packed up, kept neat and tidy, and inform the coordinator/manager if extra resources are required
- Complete daily Learner home books
- Lead trips, ensuring they run smoothly, safely and that all staff follow risk assessments, policies and procedures to keep children and young people safe
- Handover with parents and families at the beginning and end of each day, keeping them informed of incidents, accidents or other issues relating to their Learner
- Supervise activity environments, complete risk assessments, and maintain accurate records of accidents, injuries, incidents, medication administration and health and safety concerns
Personal Care and Learner Support
- Provide high‑quality, person‑centred support following and understanding care plans, ILPs, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments
- Welcome all Learners upon arrival, ensuring they feel comfortable and valued, supporting development of self‑esteem, confidence and positive experiences
- Oversee and provide personal care, always ensuring hygiene, privacy, dignity and appropriate recording
- Ensure medication is received from Parents/Carers, checked, recorded, stored safely and administered where necessary, following procedures and training
