Role OverviewWe’re looking for an Account Assistant to join our Insurance Money and Services team. Working as part of the Finance Team, the primary focus of the role is to ensure timely & accurate Accounts Payable entries, including invoices, credit notes, payment runs and reconciliations. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with key partners and stakeholders, including Tesco IMS and colleagues across the company.
Responsibilities- Input invoices accurately onto the accounts payable system, ensuring correct coding and approval in line with delegated authorities and supplier payment terms.
- Deal with supplier queries.
- Ensure supplier payments are made accurately and timely in line with payment terms.
- Prepare and sign payment runs in accordance with approved authorisations and agreed mandates.
- Reconcile daily and monthly bank statements, dealing with queries as required.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Cashiers, Claims, and approvers.
- Provide cover for the team when required (e.g., holidays).
- Produce relevant balance sheet reconciliations, month‑end processes and posting journals.
- Previous experience working in an accounting or finance role, ideally within the financial services industry.
- Good numerical skills and the ability to carry out financial reconciliations, identify data errors, and resolve discrepancies.
- Hold, or be working towards, a recognised finance qualification such as AAT (or equivalent), or have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good computer skills, including experience using Excel, Crystal Reports, or similar reporting tools.
- Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information in a clear and simple way.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using online banking systems such as HSBCnet.
- Experience using bank reconciliation software or applications.
