Mencap Volunteer Visitor (Cars, garden centres, and tea and cake! - Reigate and Redhill)
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. We match the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of those we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1‑2‑1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone's life who is not paid to be there.
We are looking for a volunteer to visit an older gentleman with a learning disability who lives in a home between Reigate and Redhill town centres. He has a special interest in cars, enjoys sensory items and activities, is non‑verbal but communicates via body language, loves tea and cake in a garden centre, a country pub lunch, going to the coast, car museums, or race courses like Brands Hatch.
He prefers quieter, settled environments and is more of a morning person, yet is flexible for visits on any day. The role involves longer, active out‑and‑about visits that may vary from a couple of hours to longer, depending on planned activities. A member of staff will support you on all visits.
