Trainee Gas Engineer

Locations:
Godstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Reigate.

Salary: £30,300 per annum, rising to £33,700 after successful completion of probation. Once qualified, earning potential increases with paid standby and overtime.

We're looking for exceptional Trainee Gas Engineers who want to learn on the job and develop skills from day one.

• Support engineers on site and learn daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Perform excavation, digging on public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes in various outdoor environments safely as part of a team.
• Contribute to essential works that keep gas supply running to millions of people, 24/7, with standby and overtime opportunities for irregular hours.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring the team has all equipment to work safely and efficiently.

• No prior experience required – we will provide all training and equipment.
• Curious and committed to learning and developing skills, eager to gain knowledge from others and to push yourself.
• Resilient and able to bounce back from challenges, learning from mistakes.
• Takes initiative and ownership of the important service we provide.
• Adapts and remains calm in public‑interaction situations and during high‑pressure circumstances.
• Comfortable working on a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights.
• Clean‑shaven, able to pass a face‑fit test and wear tight‑fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus for personal safety.
• Holds a full, valid UK driver’s licence.
• Based within commutable distance to the listed locations.
