Supervisor - Specialist Machining
Altrad are currently on the lookout for a Supervisor - Specialist Machining to join the business and provide supervisory and technical leadership in specialist machining activities, supporting the continued growth and development of our Valve Refurbishment, Cross Fleet Tube Plugging, and On-Site Machining & Bolting services.
Key Deliverables- Lead and supervise specialist machining activities across customer sites and Altrad facilities.
- Manage and safely set to work teams of machinists, including both employees and contractors.
- Ensure all machining activities are delivered safely, on time, and in line with contractual and quality requirements.
- Allocate appropriate equipment and resources to meet project demands, ensuring bespoke equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
- Deliver on-site projects, managing customer communication and relationships effectively.
- Resolve unplanned technical challenges in collaboration with senior technical staff.
- Provide technical support to the Specialist Machining Department and wider Asset Management sector.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, project delivery plans, and reports.
- Support business growth through customer engagement, product development, and Cap Ex initiatives aligned with Asset Management strategy.
- Train, mentor, and develop junior team members, maintaining specialist training qualifications.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and systems, including quality, safety, environmental, administration, and security standards.
- Maintain high standards of equipment, work spaces, and machinery, and intervene to stop work if safety or quality standards are compromised.
- Participate in regular site-based work as required.
- Recognised qualification such as SVQ, ONC, or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar or transferable role, ideally with a time-served apprenticeship.
- Strong expertise in specialist machining equipment, including tube plugging, valve seat replacement, and bespoke machining solutions.
- Sound engineering knowledge and understanding of relevant codes, standards, and quality procedures.
- Proven leadership and team management skills with experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, report writing, and organisational abilities.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems and adapt to challenging on-site conditions.
- Commercial awareness, particularly regarding project delivery and change management.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
