Mechanical Fitter
Maxwell Consultancy are working closely with an established, family run engineering business in their search for a Mechanical Fitter. This a full‑time, permanent position working in their state of the art workshop.
Role OverviewAssembling, installing and maintaining a wide range of industrial machinery and production equipment. This role suits someone who takes pride in precision engineering, thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys solving mechanical challenges with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Mechanical assembly — Build and fit machine parts, components and assemblies using metals and other materials.
- Installation & maintenance — Install, maintain and repair plant equipment to a high standard.
- Technical drawings — Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately to produce components with minimal supervision.
- Quality focus — Work with strong attention to detail and a zero‑defect mindset.
- Problem solving — Identify issues proactively and implement effective solutions.
- Adaptability — Operate effectively in a fast‑changing environment and support shifting priorities.
- Self‑management — Work independently while contributing positively to the wider team.
- Continuous development — Demonstrate willingness to learn new skills and develop professionally.
- Physical capability — Perform manual tasks safely and effectively.
- Overtime flexibility — Be available for short‑notice overtime when required.
- Apprenticeship trained — Time‑served apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting or extensive experience working as fitter.
- Technical competence — Strong mechanical knowledge and hands‑on fitting experience.
- Organisational skills — Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and accountability.
- Teamwork & independence — Comfortable working alone or as part of a team.
- Positive attitude — Able to remain constructive and focused in challenging situations.
- Continuous improvement — Self‑starter committed to improving processes and personal performance.
Standard hours (37 hours per week):
Mon‑Thurs
• 07:30 or 07:45 start
• 15:55 or 16:10 finish
• 10‑minute paid tea break
• 25‑minute unpaid lunch break
Fri
• 07:30 or 07:45 start
• 12:30 or 12:45 finish
• 10‑minute paid tea break
- £19.26/hr basic rate (37 hours per week).
- Overtime available — time‑and‑a‑half outside normal hours; double time after 12:00 on Saturdays and all day Sunday.
- Learning & Development — opportunities to gain further qualifications and progress within the role.
- Holiday entitlement — 25 days annual leave + 8 public holidays, paid at average hourly rate over the previous 52 weeks.
- Long‑service holiday reward — one additional day for every 7 years of service.
- Pension scheme — immediate enrolment with 5% employer contribution.
- Company sick pay — discretionary scheme after one year of service.
- Uniform provided.
- Free tea and coffee.
- During peak periods, you may support our in‑situ machining squad, working at various UK sites and occasionally overseas.
- Higher pay rate — typically 1.5× machine shop rate.
- Extended hours — 10-12 hour shifts.
