School Bookkeeper
Under general supervision, performs various bookkeeping responsibilities at a high school. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Exemplary Duties / ResponsibilitiesReceives school budget figures and calculates department percentages; processes budget transfers from one account to another; processes district purchase orders for school budget funds; maintains filing system for school budget transactions.
Prepares and maintains the general ledger containing a large volume of accounts in accordance with school district policies and regulations; collects and verifies student activity funds receipts; prepares and makes bank deposits; issues and monitors student activity purchase orders; verifies and writes checks for student activity funds; verifies, reconciles and records purchasing card transactions; prepares general journal/adjustment entries; records transactions for student activity funds into computerized accounting system;
maintains daily balances of general ledger; performs monthly bank reconciliation; prepares monthly reports for principal's review and submission to district office; prepares monthly statements for activity advisors; prepares activity accounts for yearly audits; maintains and monitors petty cash funds.
Receives, records, and refunds student textbook deposits; collects student textbook fines; verifies, records and refunds all other fees and deposits paid by students; monitors student activity depository accounts for the school; prepares payroll documents and independent contractor agreements for student activity fund payments made to individuals for services rendered and submits them to the district office for payment.
Employment Standards- Education/
Experience:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: - Equivalent to a high school diploma
- Three (3) years of bookkeeping experience
Knowledge of:
Bookkeeping, mathematics, bookkeeping computer programs, grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and Washoe County School District Regulations.
Skill at:
Operating computers, business machines and various office equipment; dealing with school staff members, students and parents, and the general public; organizing work assignments; filing and maintaining accurate records; researching information; and carrying out instructions. Applicants may be asked to complete a test of their bookkeeping knowledge.
Licenses/Certificates:
None required.

Grade 21:
Sch A: $21.36 (entry step);
Sch B: $25.27 (entry step). Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
This position is a 40 hour per week, 260 day position. Applicants selected for an interview for the School Bookkeeper position will be required to complete a 30 minute test. You will be contacted regarding the date, time, and location of the test.
