Job Description

The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement is hiring for a part-time position that ranges from 10 to 20 hours per week. This role will support the office's ongoing initiatives, handle administrative responsibilities, and foster community partnerships. Additionally, the student worker will have the chance to create and deliver presentations on service-learning and community engagement, assist faculty and staff within the office, and manage office communications via email, social media, and phone calls, among other tasks.

This position will serve as a primary liaison between the office, other campus departments, and community members, reporting directly to the OSLCE Coordinator.

Through this position, student workers can expect to develop various professional skills and apply a hands-on approach to their work through community-engaged praxis. There may be times when student workers are managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. OSLCE is seeking applicants who are highly motivated and interested in community-based methods and approaches for their professional or scholarly careers. Applicants should be able to learn and adapt quickly to new skills as needed and be comfortable with high-level responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the primary communications through phone, Microsoft Teams, social media, and email for the office staff

  • Establish an understanding and facilitate Community Partners through the community partnership process, and aid in supporting the final approval process

  • Provide guidance and resources for service-learning faculty through presentations, answering questions, or pointing them to the appropriate person, etc.

  • Assist the Coordinator with ongoing community projects and initiatives, both on and off campus, such as Wolf Pack Discoveries and Community Partner Series/Events

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

  • Candidate has strong desire and/or ability to learn how to collaborate with campus and community organizations

  • Candidate is proficient in Microsoft Platforms such as Word, Power point, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.

  • Candidate has the desire to develop knowledge through project management databases and techniques in the workplace

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates with a strong interest in community-based learning, community-engaged scholarship, and public-facing or serving programs

* Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply

Schedule

10-20 hours per week (office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm)
