Under direction, performs ongoing construction inspection work on a variety of complex site, building, remodel, and renewal projects; evaluates all phases of projects;
Performs related work as required.

Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities

Inspects and documents new, existing, and proposed construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, code requirements, and safe construction practices. Inspects construction projects to determine compliance with Federal, State, local and District codes and regulations; and coordinates District projects with other local agencies and district personnel. Performs Daily onsite inspection to verify quality of work progress, observe field tests, technical installations and retain all documents plans and specifications for District records.

Monitor construction schedule to evaluate and update progress and notify District staff and the architect of any deficiencies in work performed.

Performs liaison functions with other District personnel, contractors and the general public; assesses feasibility of proposed projects; estimates time, labor, and construction costs needed for project; solicit quotes from contractors; coordinates and schedules work with contractors and District site personnel; keeps inspection records and prepares reports for use by District administration;
Monitors all recorded changes on "as-built" drawings and specifications.

Under direction, performs minor project management duties including but not limited to, project scope and planning, procurement, and contract administration.

When assigned to remodel additional duties may include;

  • Solicit and secure proposals with outside vendors and contractors
  • Estimates projects for Remodel Carpenter shop
  • Purchase and secure materials for Remodel Carpenter Shop
  • Inspect Carpenter Shop work for Quality, Completeness
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/

Experience:

Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Seven (7) years of journey level experience in building construction trades; of which three (3) years included responsible construction supervisory experience with multiple trade work, I.E. experience as a Forman or Superintendent for a General Contractor, or. Building Inspector.

Knowledge of:
Modern building construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in various building trades. safety and hazards precautions; architectural planning and design; stages of construction when possible violations and defects may be easily observed and corrected;
Federal, State and local building, mechanical, electrical, Fire, ADAAA, and other applicable building codes; and contract administration.

Skill at:
Reviewing architectural designs for compliance with law and guidelines; analyzing blueprints; estimating costs and coordinating construction activities; assisting the Project manager the priority of change orders; recommending alternatives and appropriate courses of action; interpreting and working from technical drawings and blueprints; determining poor workmanship, inferior materials and hazards of fire or collapse; working independently; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions;
Working with site administration and staff to explain the construction schedule and impact to the school. Assist with or develop contractor punch lists and ensure all items have been completed and signed off; developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs; preparing and maintaining administrative and operational records and reports; communicating effectively orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships…
