Overview

Coach - Boys Assistant Basketball Coach (SAF) at Washoe County School District (Reed High School).

Summary:

Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, responsible for coaching or advising students in a specified athletic or Extended Day Duty Activity, with emphasis on sound coaching/advising practices and injury prevention. Performs related work as required.

• Develop rapport with students and provide sound leadership; model good sportsmanship; apply discipline fairly and according to procedures; oversee the health, welfare, and conduct of students.
• Maintain cooperation and communication with the Principal and/or Athletic Director regarding the program, including trips and games.
• Develop and maintain a system for accountability, upkeep, and protection of equipment.
• Develop good public relations within the school and community.
• Attend contests and practice sessions.
• Complete appropriate reports evaluating the activity and make recommendations for improvements.

• Required:
  
  Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills. A high school diploma is a baseline; it is preferred that applicants are teachers presently under contract with Washoe County School District.
• Some experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in this activity.
• Knowledge of rules, theory, and regulations related to the activity, including changes and developments.
• Skills:
  
  Leadership, building rapport with students, organizing practices and contests, verbal and written communication, supervising students, and teaching good sportsmanship.
• Licenses/Certifications:
  
  Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable; CPR certification is required for coaches/advisors involved in an athletic activity.
• Special Considerations:
  Willingness to work on weekends and at various times of the day, depending on the activity.
• Compensation:
  Not a contracted position; compensation is based on a stipend per the Extended Day Duty Scale negotiated with WCSD.
