Job Description
The Washoe County School District is seeking a Second Grade Teacher, bilingual preferred, for a full-time standard position.
Summary Description
:
Under the general supervision of an administrator, a classroom teacher will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.
Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities
:
- Planning and preparation, including demonstrating mastery of content and pedagogy, setting instructional outcomes for diverse learners, and designing coherent instruction and student assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards.
- Creating an environment of respect and rapport, organizing physical space, managing classroom procedures and student behavior, and establishing a culture for learning.
- Communicating learning expectations to students, engaging students in learning, utilizing questioning and discussion techniques, embedding assessment in instruction, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness, and demonstrating familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
- Maintaining accurate records, reflecting on teaching, supporting family and community partnerships, participating in a professional community, and demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/
Experience:
Any combination of education and experience in teaching would provide the required knowledge and skills. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and/or three years of verified contracted teaching experience with a Bachelor's Degree and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in Nevada.
Knowledge of
:
Child development, behavior and characteristics of students, subject area and/or credential area of teaching, effective teaching skills, planning and organizing, supervision and control, assessment and diagnosis, and interpersonal relations.
Skill at
:
Creating an effective environment for learning, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff members, and effective utilization of technology in instruction, planning, data-based decision making, and monitoring of student achievement.
License/Certificates
:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area and/or grade level.
