Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for a tenure‑track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the areas of nuclear engineering and thermal sciences who can also support the department’s Nuclear Packaging program. The position aligns with the University’s mission as a land‑grant institution and carries responsibilities in undergraduate and graduate instruction, supervision of graduate students, and active engagement in research.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain externally funded research projects, contribute to the advancement of nuclear engineering and thermal sciences, support and expand existing programs such as the Nuclear Packaging safety, and participate in university and professional service activities.

Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction, cutting‑edge research, service to the university and the profession.
Required Qualifications- Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering or another closely related field.
- Specialization and interests that complement existing research and instructional strengths in the department and affiliated programs.
- Experimental and computational expertise in areas relevant to nuclear safety engineering (e.g., waste management and packaging safety, sensors/instrumentation, power systems, reactor physics, radiation imaging, fuel cycles, etc.).
- Expertise in thermal fluid sciences (e.g., computational fluid dynamics, heat transfer, multi‑phase flows, energy storage or emerging areas).
- Preparation of research proposals; experience with federal research funding sought.
- For Assistant Professor: post‑doctoral experience or prior service as a Research Professor.
- For Associate Professor: tenure‑track experience as an Assistant or Associate Professor and a demonstrated record of securing federal research funding and producing high‑impact scholarly work.
