Summary As an early‑career Hydrogeologist, you will lead drilling and well installation activities, support geophysical logging programs, and ensure safe field operations in diverse environments. You will collect, interpret, and communicate groundwater data, conduct pumping and airlift tests, analyse field results, and contribute to hydrogeologic evaluations that drive project decisions. This position offers the opportunity to support the design of groundwater and potable water supply wells, develop rehabilitation plans, assist with engineering reports, technical specifications, and water rights applications.
Job Responsibilities and Duties In this position you will:
- Oversee drilling and well installation activities; troubleshoot problems; log borehole cuttings with USCS soil classification and hydrogeologic properties; oversee geophysical logging of boreholes.
- Work safely in populated, rural, or remote outdoor locations; identify potential hazards and coordinate with Health and Safety personnel.
- Interface with drillers and oversee well installation and pumping tests (step and constant‑rate) or airlift testing.
- Analyze pumping test data and conduct hydrogeologic desktop evaluations.
- Collect and manage hydrogeologic field data (groundwater levels, flow rate monitoring, water quality sampling, photographs).
- Report findings in technical reports, memorandums, and emails; communicate clearly with maps, figures, and plots.
- Assist with design of groundwater, monitoring, potable water supply wells, and well rehabilitation plans.
- Assist with preparation of bids, technical specifications, preliminary engineering reports, and water right applications.
- Assist with groundwater modeling using MODFLOW.

- Desire to learn hydrogeologic skills including field identification of geologic materials, pumping test techniques, water quality sampling, groundwater modeling, and regional or local hydrogeologic assessments.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving through research and data gathering.
- Excellent communication skills with clients, coworkers, committee members, and public agencies.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Computer literacy – proficiency in Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, Python (desired) and programming for data processing.
- Ability to lift 50 lb and perform standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking on uneven terrain.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in hydrogeology, geological sciences, engineering, or related science discipline (Master’s preferred).
- No minimum work experience required; EIT/EI required within 6 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license; driving essential.
Physical Demands The position requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lb; occasional navigation of uneven terrain.
Work Environment Moderate noise level; work indoors and outdoors, site visits and fieldwork.
