Full Time - Eligible for Benefits## Position Purpose The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back-office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the appropriate provider has addressed any patient questions or concerns. This position may float to various sites within the health system.
Certified Medical Assistant working in a Medical Home and/or medical group setting will be an integral part of the patient's care team. They will work side-by-side with other members of the patient's care team, including healthcare providers and nurses. This position in these settings will be required to do more during the rooming process; from reviewing medications, to goal setting, to patient education.
They will also be expected to assist with the tracking and coordination of patient test results, with reminding patients of overdue health maintenance topics, and with assisting other members of the Medical Home Care Team in delivering optimal patient-centered care.## Nature and Scope The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the provider in back office duties, including but not limited to: escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly;
taking vital signs as per guidelines; maintaining examination rooms' stock; documenting all patient communications; preparing lab specimens for processing; completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same; scheduling patients for tests; placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record; and administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies.
Challenges to this position are delivery of patient care complicated by new techniques, paperwork, changing department and hospital policies, increased information available on each patient and fluctuations in staffing.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard.
The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other health care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews.
This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements.
