Position PurposeThis role processes and prepares multi-specialty and general surgery instrumentation, provides quality sterile trays, surgical instruments, packs, and medical supplies, and cleans patient equipment for a department operating 24/7.
Nature and ScopeThis position provides vital services to the Surgical Services Department and other clinical departments, ensuring proper cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and decontamination of instruments and supplies. It involves handling potentially hazardous materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring sterility and safety standards are met. The role requires continuous learning of new instruments and procedures, and effective communication with vendors and staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining proper levels of instruments and supplies
- Ensuring equipment meets sterilization and functionality standards
- Monitoring inventory and supplies
- Supporting OR staff with instrumentation and aseptic techniques
- Tracking and managing loaned instruments and supplies
- Training new employees
- Knowledge of medical instruments, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology
- Understanding of sterilization procedures and infection control
- Ability to handle contaminated items safely
- Critical thinking, conflict management, and multitasking skills
- Effective communication and attention to detail
