Formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA) is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1965. NNLA provides Northern Nevada’s vulnerable populations with access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay, to protect their rights, safety, and family stability. NNLA plays a vital role in serving domestic violence victims and their children; protecting the rights of abused and neglected children, the indigent, and the elderly;

and increasing the safety and stability of immigrants who are elderly or victims of crime and domestic or sexual violence.

Position Overview :
Northern Nevada Legal Aid seeks full-time Staff Attorney for our Senior Law Center, Housing & Consumer Protection Unit. This position will provide counsel, advice, and direct legal representation to individuals 60 or older in Northern Nevada, focusing on housing and consumer-related issues.

Sample Client Issues Include:

• Foreclosure, eviction, uninhabitable or unsafe living conditions
• Wrongful lockouts, housing discrimination, utility shutoffs
• Elder abuse, exploitation, and financial instability
• Advanced planning such as directives, wills, and powers of attorney

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain direct representation and an active caseload in housing and consumer protection matters, as well as providing legal counsel, advice, and referrals to suitable resources.
• Establish and maintain regular contact with senior clients throughout the duration of their legal actions, with a focus on trauma-informed representation.
• Attend hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and other court functions fully prepared to actively advocate for clients.
