Tool & Die Machinist

Description

We are seeking a Tool and Die Maker/Machinist for any of our facilities. We are looking for an experienced tool and die maker with familiarity in the extrusion process. This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment with near immediate growth and leadership potential. We are specifically looking for an individual who has at least some experience with CNCs, vertical mills, EDMs, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and various hand tools.

Education and/or Experience
:
All levels of education are encouraged to apply. Experience in this field required.

Language Skills
:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, print and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of FEC employees and customers.

Mathematical Skills
:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands
:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tool or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment
:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

• Operates wire EDM machine.
• Studies blueprints of die and products, die models, templates and prototype parts and visualize shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die.
• Computes dimensions, plans machining, and layout and assembly operations.
• Measures, marks and scribes metal stock for machining.
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, redial drill press, shaper and grinder, to machine parts to specifications and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
• Smooths flat and contoured surfaces of dies.
• Verifies dimensions and clearance in dies.
• Works to tolerance as close as 0.0005 inch.
• Repairs or replaces dies as necessary.
• Oversees and supports machine maintenance and repairs.
• Maintains satisfactory attendance.
• Works overtime as needed.
• Maintains a neat and safe work environment.
• Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
