An Operator is responsible for the operation of a plastics extrusion line, including all downstream and auxiliary equipment.

• Education and/or Experience – High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience or training, or equivalent combination.
• Language Skills – Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos; write simple correspondence; present information to customers and employees.
• Mathematical Skills – Basic algebra with whole numbers, fractions, decimals; calculate rate, ratio, percent; use measuring devices.
• Reasoning Ability – Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, schedule formats.

• Read product specifications to determine die and material requirements.
• Select, position, and secure dies, cutters, and other auxiliary equipment to extruders.
• Set up extruder and adjust machines to meet specifications.
• Observe machine operation to detect defects or malfunction and measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy; adjust machine operation as needed.
• Stack, mark, and pack finished goods for transport.
• Perform minor machine maintenance such as cleaning or oiling machines, dies or work pieces.
• Assist other machine operators to set up machines and pack finished goods.
• Maintain satisfactory attendance, work overtime and various shifts, and maintain a neat and safe work environment.
