Naph Care is hiring a Hemodialysis Nurse - PRN to join our team of medical professionals in Reno, NV
, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Washoe County Jail.
As a Correctional Hemodialysis Nurse
, you will work alongside correctional staff and other medical professionals to provide quality care, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. This is a unique position to make a difference to a diverse population with complex medical needs.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of inmates requiring hemodialysis, develop and implement individualized care plans, and monitor patient responses to treatment.
- Administer dialysis treatments, including setting up and monitoring dialysis machines, managing access sites (e.g., fistulas, grafts, catheters), and ensuring patient safety during the procedure.
- Administer medications related to dialysis treatment, according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Respond to and manage emergencies related to dialysis treatment, including complications like hypotension, bleeding, or infection.
- Implement and maintain strict infection control practices to prevent the spread of infections within the dialysis unit.
- Work closely with nephrologists, other nurses, correctional officers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care.
- Accurately and thoroughly document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, treatments, medication administration, and any adverse events.
- Educate patients about their kidney disease, dialysis treatment, and self‑care strategies.
- Adhere to all security protocols and regulations of the correctional facility while providing patient care.
- Collaborate with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
- Monitor compliance with site‑specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards.
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within NV.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Hemodialysis Staff RN in a healthcare setting; correctional healthcare experience preferred.
- Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or other relevant certifications preferred.
- Must possess and be able to maintain BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; AHA or American Red Cross, preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, IV insertion, medication administration, and emergency response skills.
- Understanding of renal physiology, kidney disease progression, and principles of hemodialysis.
- Previous experience working in a correctional facility, familiarity with security protocols and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
