The SPCA of Northern Nevada is looking to add a skilled, compassionate, hardworking Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician in Training to our Woofderful Pawspital team!
As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care for animals at the Adoption Center. You will assist veterinarians in diagnosing and treating various animal health issues while ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients while they wait for their loving homes. We are looking for someone excited about shelter medicine and reducing pet overpopulation through spay and neuter!
This role is a unique opportunity for a Technician to take on a variety of responsibilities and grow their skill set. We encourage ongoing development and a rotation of responsibilities so that the entire team is exposed to all clinic operations. We perform a high volume of surgeries and are a tight-knit team of honest and helpful collaborators. We offer an annual stipend for scrubs and many other perks to promote a healthy work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in Fear Free methods of restraint during exams, blood draws, and radiographs.
- Provide excellent care to our patients during surgery including surgical prep, anesthetic monitoring, and recovery.
- Placing catheters and intubating patients.
- Maintaining and distributing controlled drugs, logging, administering and drawing up medications.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools.
- Ensure the clinic and surgical suite is stocked and ready for use at all times.
- Ensure all cages and kennels are clean at all times.
- Administering medications, including injectables.
- Taking x-rays.
- Speaking with foster parents, owners, and new adopters.
- Assist in collecting samples such as urine, fecal matter, and blood.
- Running blood work in our IDEXX machines, ordering tests to be sent to the IDEXX laboratory.
- Entering surgery notes, exams, and prepping medications to go home.
Qualifications
- LVT preferred.
- Will consider VTIT with 2+ years experience in a clinical setting.
- Reliability, emotional maturity, and positive attitude are a must! We work hard to maintain a positive working environment for all.
Compensation is $20-23 per hour, DOE.
