JOB SUMMARY

The On-Call Archaeologist will support a variety of archaeology projects within the state of Nevada.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as an archaeologist for assigned projects
  • Independently document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs
  • Evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility
  • Cultural desktop reviews and pre-field literature reviews
  • Background and archival research
  • Deliverables coordination and reviews
  • Deliverables submissions to agencies
  • Proposal writing and budgeting and general marketing duties
  • Write monitoring and IMACS forms with minimal errors
  • Follow instruction and make adjustments when provided feedback
  • Describe and differentiate geological and cultural strata in order to identify archaeological deposits
  • Differentiate faunal and human bones
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Has completed coursework leading to a degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field:
  • Crew Member – minimum 2 years of college-level coursework and completion of a field school.
  • Crew Chief – bachelor’s degree, completion of a field school, and 1 year of professional experience.
  • Field Director / Project Archaeologist – bachelor’s degree, completion of a field school, 2 years of professional experience, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
  • Principal Investigator – graduate degree, completion of a field school, 2 years professional experience as a Field Director, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
  • Ability to be listed on agency permits as Field Technician/Monitor
  • Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the designated region
  • Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the designated region
  • Survey an average of 30 acres/5 miles per day and carry personal health and safety equipment (i.e., personal water, sunscreen, etc.) when surveying
  • Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)
  • Perform work duties independently and efficiently, while working in a team setting
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Proficiency in using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) to document cultural resources
  • Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey
    123 applications (for phone or tablet)
  • Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings
  • Strong writing and editing skills
