The Reno‑Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking experienced law enforcement officers to join the Airport Police force to perform specialized law enforcement duties focusing on aviation security and safety. This Lateral Police Officer position is critical in maintaining public safety, fostering community engagement, and upholding departmental standards. The Airport Police team is expected to approach their work in a positive, professional, courteous manner, with a teamwork‑oriented mindset, as the work may involve collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and interaction with a diverse array of individuals within the airport environment.

At the RTAA, the Airport Police team is a key member of the Operations & Public Safety Department. Airport Police Officers are primarily responsible for performing general law enforcement duties and other emergency response to help provide the public with a safe experience while traveling through the Reno‑Tahoe International Airport. The nature of the work requires the ability to act without immediate supervision and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations, and to have strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse population.
There is one (1) position open; however, the list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week – including holidays. To be considered for this position, applicants must indicate they are available for day, swing and night shifts (all three) on the RTAA online application.
During the initial 12‑month probationary period, the individual will be assigned to a shift for the first 6 months of their probation. Upon completion of the probationary period, shift assignments are generally determined by seniority using a Shift Bid System.
In addition, this position qualifies for a $1000 recruitment bonus paid in three installments at 3 months ($250) six months ($250), and one year ($500).

Job Duties
- Patrol designated areas of the airport to preserve law, order, and public safety; checks airport facilities for physical security and ensure compliance with the approved airport security program.
