Job SummaryThe Communications Technician II performs the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and can function as a lead member of a technical team. The Fiber Network Technician coordinates small groups of installers to meet daily workload while adhering to Company safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Install a work area outlet for floor or wall; terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks; mount face plates and surface mount boxes; adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards.
- Build closets: mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware; install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
- Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use a volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide training; coordinate personnel and timeline to complete projects.
- Fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and others as required).
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Salary range:
Min USD $22.00/Yr. Max USD $28.00/Yr.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and able to help create, develop and implement project process improvements.
- Promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
- Act as the Company liaison with customer representatives.
- Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to read, write and give oral presentations.
- Ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Color vision, ability to read small print, and hearing/recognition of audible signals such as dial tones.
- Ability to travel within the branch and/or regional territory as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory.
- Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves; punch tools with 110 and 66 block blades, tone set, and 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and ability to supervise others.
- Proficiency with listed tools; ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
- Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
