Role OverviewWe are currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
. The Mobile Diesel Technician II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, while continuing to learn advanced skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful candidate complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in Repair Orders (RO) using company‑issued iOS devices and our proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
- Work independently and manage a daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals and retrieve purchase order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks plus pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (alternatively a degree/certification and 5 years’ experience).
- Possess and supply the hand tools necessary for required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Submit a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining; otherwise complete a DOT physical.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
