Electronic Cable Technician (40 hrs./wk., 260 days)

Join the Washoe County School District as an Electronic Cable Technician. The role is performed under the general supervision of the Equipment Repair Shop Supervisor.

Summary Description

Perform electronic and electro‑mechanical diagnostic and repair procedures both in the field and in shop. Repair minor electronic/electrical equipment and related work as needed, including maintenance of educational support equipment.

Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities
  • Perform minor repairs and routine periodic preventive maintenance on educational support equipment such as laminators, VCR/DVD players, phones, pottery class equipment, home economics appliances, and mechanical binder‑punch tools.
  • Replace LCD projector lamps; maintain closed circuit television (analog and IP); install, troubleshoot, and repair coaxial, CAT 5, and CAT 6 cables; install connectors and trace cable runs with tone signals.
  • Assist other electronic technicians as needed and perform most job functions with little supervision.
  • Order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and materials; maintain a library of technical and repair manuals; document services performed on equipment.
  • Assist or perform work associated with other trades, including asbestos disturbance, lead remediation, and mold remediation as required by applicable regulations.
Employment Standards
  • Education / Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills qualifying.
  • Skills:
    • Four (4) years of current experience in repair of electronic and electro‑mechanical equipment and low‑voltage cable installations.
    • Or completion of an apprenticeship program from an approved trade or technical school in basic electrical and electronic repair.
  • Knowledge: Electrical and electronic theory, basic troubleshooting, mechanical devices, electric motors, analog and logic circuits, schematic diagrams and blueprints, and experience with coaxial and CAT 5–CAT 6 cables and connectors.
  • Skill at: Working independently and as a team; performing preventive maintenance; understanding technical manuals; observing safety practices; verbal and written instructions; heavy manual labor; preparing reports; handling work orders; maintaining effective relationships.
Licenses / Certificates

Possession of a valid Nevada State Operator's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Certifications
  • AHERA 16‑hour asbestos training (required within the first 12 months).
  • OSHA eight (8) hour Lead Action Training (required within the first 12 months).
Special Requirements

Applicants must pass a full mask or half mask respirator fit test; facial hair restrictions apply. Must use ladders to access roof equipment and may be called to work off‑hours for emergencies.

Physical Demands

The work requires substantial physical exertion: climbing ladders, lifting objects over 60 lb, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling in restricted areas, and accessing attics and crawl spaces.

Additional Job Information

Grade 23;
Salary Schedule A: $25.26 (entry step);
Salary Schedule B: $30.45 (entry step). Salaries are subject to adjustment each fiscal year.
